This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have, in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000.

2. What we collect

Information you give us

• When you place an order: your name, delivery address, area and PIN code, mobile number, email address (optional), order notes, the products you order and your payment choice (cash or UPI on delivery). This reaches us when you send the order message on WhatsApp.
• When you contact us or track an order: your name, mobile number, order ID and your message, sent to us on WhatsApp, by phone or by email.
• When you pay by UPI: we see the payer name, UPI ID and transaction reference that your UPI app shares with us. We never see your UPI PIN or bank login.
• Reviews and comments: the name, email and text you enter. Your email is never shown publicly.
• Returns and refunds: photos of the item and, for refunds, the UPI ID or bank details you give us to receive the money.

Information collected automatically

• Like all websites, our web host keeps standard server logs: your IP address, browser type, the pages you requested and the time. These are used for security and to keep the website working.
• We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.

3. Data kept in your browser

To make shopping easier, the website saves some information in your browser’s local storage on your own device:

• To confirm, pack and deliver your order, and to contact you about it.
• To take payment on delivery and to handle cancellations, returns and refunds.
• To answer your questions and complaints.
• To send you offers, only if you ask us to (for example by sending SUBSCRIBE on WhatsApp). Send STOP at any time to stop them.
• To keep invoices and records that tax and accounting laws require.
• To prevent fraud and misuse of the website.

We use your data because you have consented to it by placing an order or contacting us, or for other legitimate uses allowed by law, such as meeting legal requirements.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share it only when needed:

• Our delivery staff or delivery partner: your name, address, mobile number and order, to deliver it.
• Service providers who run things for us, such as our web host and WhatsApp (Meta). They may use the data only to provide their service.
• Government authorities when the law requires it, for example for tax, or to respond to a lawful request.

6. Other services on this website

• WhatsApp: orders and messages go through WhatsApp, which is covered by WhatsApp’s own privacy policy.
• Google Fonts: the website’s font is loaded from Google, which receives your IP address when it is loaded.
• Google Maps: the map on our Contact page is provided by Google and covered by Google’s privacy policy.
• Social media links take you to those services, which have their own policies.

7. How long we keep it

• Order and invoice records: for as long as tax and accounting laws require us to keep them.
• Messages and complaints: for up to 2 years after we last hear from you, unless we need them longer to settle a dispute.
• Offer messages: until you send STOP.
• Server logs: for as long as our web host keeps them, normally a few weeks.

After that we delete the data or make it anonymous.

8. How we protect it

The website uses a secure (HTTPS) connection. Only staff who need your details to handle your order can see them, and we take reasonable steps to protect them. No method of sending or storing data is completely secure; if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

Beware of fraud: MadrasMart will never ask you for an OTP, UPI PIN, card number or password by phone, WhatsApp or email.

9. Your rights

You can ask us to:

• tell you what personal data we hold about you and how we use it;
• correct or complete it;
• delete it, unless the law requires us to keep it;
• stop using it for offers, or withdraw any consent you gave;
• deal with a complaint about how we used it;
• act for someone you have nominated, if you die or are unable to act yourself.

Send your request on WhatsApp, by phone or by email (details below). We may ask you to confirm your identity. If you are not satisfied with our reply, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

10. Children

Our website is meant for adults. Children under 18 should shop only with a parent or guardian, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children without a parent’s consent.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy, for example when we add online payments or user accounts. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change affects how we use data we already hold, we will tell you.
